TEXT CORPORA TO STUDY OF A GRAMMATICAL AUXILIARITY

Illya Danyluk

Department of Ukrainian Language and Applied Linguistics, Donetsk National University, Donetsk, Ukraine

Available 7 August 2012.

Abstract Relevance

In modern linguistics which has high-powered hard-ware and technical facilities of personal computers (PC) and supercomputers that operate either by oneself or more frequently in network "cloud", the possibility of handling huge amount of empirical linguistic data opens up huge prospects. Although the point is about imperfection of solving the basic problems of computer linguistics - machine translation, speech recognition and synthesis, scientists and potential users in principal accepted partial defects of it some time ago, but the basic of theoretical and applied linguistics areas also receive a new momentum through the using of text corpuses (TC). The study of linguistic phenomena using TC enables not only confirmation or refutation of some aspects of the theory, but also allows the discovery unknown patterns of functioning linguistic units of different levels. The direction of corpus Linguistics confidently took a leading position in applied linguistics that started with a work Computational Analysis of Present-Day American English by H. Kuchera and V. Nel'son Frensis published in 1967. The theoretical basics of trend (Facchinetti) were rather elaborated; its methods (Wallis S., Nelson G.) that consist of annotation of corpora (layout), extraction (searching) data of corporas, and analysis of the corpora were produced. Nowadays the area is represented by several periodical publishing: Corpora, Corpus Linguistics and Linguistic Theory, ICAME Journal i the International Journal of Corpus Linguistics.

Purpose

In the article, which author will make the first in a series of followings publications, he sets a goal to reveal the main stages of creation TC Ukrainian language for learning grammatical phenomena connected with function of functional parts of speech which include particles, prepositions, and conjunctions.

Tasks

The author will try to realize the following objectives: 1) to describe the prerequisites of creation CT grammatical functional including the problem of choosing a manager corpora; 2) to determine the list of tasks that will spring up in the process of creation such as CT; 3) describe the theoretical basics for designing metalinguistic and own linguistic layout; 4) represent a system of tags for main functional units of the Ukrainian language.

Conclusion

Therefore the development of CT grammatical auxiliarity and as any text's corpora is a complicated prolonged process. Nowadays the creation of Ukrainian interface for corpora's manager NoSketchEngine Manatee/Bonito is completed and the system of tags for metalinguistic and own linguistic layout is developed and will be described in the following series of publications.

Perspective

The most difficult task is to determine the quantitative and qualitative parameters of the criterion for representativeness corpora's texts and automatic's machinery layout.

Research highlights

► The article discusses the basic theoretical and practical approaches to the design of new corpora for the Ukrainian, which is designed among other general linguistic purposes for studying functional and communicative nature of the syntactic parts of speech (POS) - preposition, conjunction and particle. We describe the requirements for building, objectives set in the project, technical and program aspects of the corpora, tag system for syntactic POS.

Keywords: corpora, corpora manager, tagging, tag, syntactic POS.

FUNCTIONING OF MINING PHRASEOLOGY IN EASTERN-SLOBOZHANIAN DIALECTAL SPEECH

Tetiana Diakova

Department of Social-Humanitarian Disciplines, Luhansk State Academy of Culture and Arts, Luhansk, Luhansk region, Ukraine

Available 7 September 2012.

Abstract Relevance

Eastern-Slobozhanian Ukrainian subdialects have great importance in forming of phraseology by the features of local way of life, material and spiritual culture, a noticeable place is occupied by substandard phraseology units of jargon. Mining sphere is a special productive area that presented in the manners of people speaking in a definite areal. It is predefined by reasons of extralingual character, among that in particular traditionally high development of mountain business, social activity of miners, far of population of region participating to the mine production. Nowadays development of mining business, broadcasting of habitants adopts the all greater amount of lexemes and phraseological units from mining that needs a further study of this phraseology layer.

Purpose

The purpose of the paper is to trace functioning of Eastern-Slobozhanian Ukrainian phraseological units of mining that directly do not belong to the mine production. Tasks

The declared aim predetermines the necessity of decision of such tasks: 1) to collect phraseology units, related to mountain industry and exist in broadcasting of habitants of natural habitat, however have direct attitude toward a mine production; 2) to distinguish the semantic groups of such expressions; 3) to find out their ethnocultural connotation; 4) to compare phraseological dialects and certain lexical units with those, that fixed in the dictionaries of different types.

Conclusion

Formation of phraseological units within the limits of mining professional jargon represents difficult cooperation of linguistic and social factors. Phraseological units with professional miner's terms productive processes, operations, characterize not only; characterize original appearance of man; mark, events, physiology processes. Development of phraseology fund of the professional broadcasting of miners allows to distinguish corresponding semantic to unity of expressions of "domestic" phraseological units, used by not only miners but also habitants of the settlements related to the mines (expressions with general values to do (to loaf) ', 'nothing lazy 'person', to 'execute superfluous, to nobody not necessary work', to 'drink, celebrating some occasion', 'very dirty').

Professional miner's jargon serves to native speakers for the secondary nomination of behavior, states of man for denotation of that is not corresponding expressive facilities in a literary language, slangy phraseological units are the expressive names of the already adopted states, properties, actions.

Perspective

Active existence in broadcasting of habitants of natural habitat of mining phraseology allows to conduct further researches from the study of semantics and sociocultural connotation of expressions, and also to accumulate material for edition of dictionary of mining vocabulary and phraseology.

Research highlights

The functioning of miners' phraseology in Eastern-Slobozhanian subdialects and ethnocultural connotation expressions are issued in the article. The classification of phraseological units due to their semantics was set defined. ► The linguistic basis of the research was real phraseological units of Eastern-Slobozhanian dialects. ► There were involved different phraseological sources.

Keywords: Eastern-Slobozhanian subdialects, areal phraseology, phraseological unit, miners' phraseology, semantic meaning.

ATTRIBUTIVE  COMPOSITE  COMPLEX  (ILLUSTRATED  BY  ATTRIBUTIVE COMPOSITE COMPLEX "-ОКИЙ") Olena Dontsova

Specialists' language training department, Donbas State Technical University, Alchevs'k, Luhansk region, Ukraine

Available 23 August 2012.

Abstract Relevance

The theory of nominatheme development represented by V.I. Terkulov in his own works and in his pupils' works requires to produce a new viewpoint to the definite categories concerning not only onomasiology but also grammar, lexicology and word formation. A new interpretation of composite language system is especially attractive. There are woks advanced within the new paradigm. But first of all, they only have to do with Russian composites, in the second place they only have to do only with substantive nominathemes. The description from the position of the newest nominatheme approach to the attribute units is the firstly done in our research. The unit we call attributive composite complex becomes an object of the research. Unlike a nominatheme it is not a nominative unit. It is only the whole set of attributive composites which have an identical onomasiological basis. They are only nominally interrelated with paronym composite words which act as actualizators of nominatheme definite signs usually as substantive ones in syntagmas. The topicality of the work is specified by the fact that such units have never been considered by science that is why they are required to develop models of their description.

Purpose

The purpose of analysis is to define the conception of attributive composite complex and to develop models of its description.

Tasks

The declared objective is stipulated the necessity of such assignment solution as: 1) to define the conception of attributive composite complex; 2) to determine ways of attributive composite complex classification; 3) to reveal basic omomasiological models of attributive composite complex "-окий"; 4) to reveal basic models of formal attributive composite complex "-окий".

Conclusion

The conception of attributive composite complex allows to define composite categorization basic directions of concept homogeneous attribute signs which are typified with the help of the homogeneous attributive units from the onomasiological point of view. The work demonstrates that attribution usually advanced with the homogeneous formal and onomaciological division of reality.

Perspective

Not only the creation of proper lexicographic works in which record homogeneous attributive units from the onomasiological point of view becomes promising, but it is very prospective to integrate such onomasiological models into the machine translation system. The creation of model attributive categorization permanent system in the whole system of attributive composite complex is having good prospects.

Research highlights

A new composite unit is produced in the given research. It is an attributive composite complex which is the complex of composites having homogeneous formal semantic onomasiological basis. ► The author analyses the attributive composite complex ("-окий", i.e. with the definite eyes"). To establish a list of onomasiological models where this complex is implemented is the basic direction.

Keywords: attributive composite complex, nominatheme, onomasiological basis, onomasiological sign, onomasiological model.

GRAMMAR AMD LINGUISTIC CATEGORIZATION

Yurij Dorofeev

Department of Philology, Crimean Republican Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Simferopol, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine

Available 20 July 2012.

Abstract Relevance

The need of forming a new anthropocentric view on language problems, and, as a consequence, the development of a new theory of language recognizes by the most important task of modern linguistics. Following the logic of the development of linguistics leads scientists to think about the characteristics of the traditional anthropocentric units and the allocation on this basis the new language subsystems, categories and items.

Each of these subsystems performs its function in the process of reflection and fixation of experience of native speakers. And as it is necessary to account the interdependence of the subsystems of language in the mind of the individual, for the modern linguistics the analysis of the units is actual (concept, semantheme, proposition, etc.), which are intermediate between the semantics and the objective reality and thus reflect the anthropocentric content of language facts.

Purpose

The purpose is to characterize the interaction of semantic and grammatical categories in the process of forming a picture of the world.

Tasks

The purpose involves the following tasks: 1) analysis of anthropocentric organization of language and its subsystems; 2) definition of the role of language units in the process of fixing the picture of the world; 3) reflection of characteristics of the empirical and cognitive experience of a native speaker by facilities of grammar.

Conclusion

The formation of new paradigm in linguistics has determined the interest of linguists to the processes of language categorization to methods of reflecting in the language the cognitive experience. Handling this problem requires not only the development of new tools and categorical research system, but also significant changes in the views on the language, which today cannot be considered independently from man.

In the picture of the world the conceptions of reality and the social importance of experience is captured in the language units and categories. Each, even the smallest unit, is the creation of many generations, and therefore reflects not only how people see the real world around him, but also the history of the formation of these representations.

Categorization acts as a process of division of the universe in a relatively simple pieces, with which is structured the infinite variety of the world, reflected in a natural language that captures the totality of knowledge about the world, not only in the lexical-semantic, but also in the grammatical system.

Perspective

Future prospects for the development of research in this area are due, in author opinion, to the identification of language units that will be considered categorization as a functional and pragmatically conditioned process that determines the development of the language system. This requires an analysis of invariant categories that are realized by alternating positional options, reflecting the relationship between structural and nominative language means.

Research highlights

► The article considers the concept of the language picture of the world from the point of view of anthropocentrism paradigm, is characterized by the interaction of semantic and grammatical categories in the process of forming a picture of the world, examines the concept which takes account of this interaction.

Keywords: picture of the world, grammar, anthropocentrism, category.

VERBS DENOTING NEGATIVE IMPACT IN MODERN GERMAN Ganna Khrupina

Department of Germanic Philology, Donetsk National University, Donetsk, Donetsk region, Ukraine

Available 29 August 2012.

Abstract Relevance

The experience of previous studies makes it possible to state the relevance of the research, determined by the fact that the VMA (verbs of mental affect) subgroup with the meaning of evoking an object's negative emotions has never been singled out and studied as an individual lexical-semantic subgroup in German despite the frequency of use of such VMAs, their number and importance for the basic lexis of native speakers of each language.

Purpose
